Juneteenth's Home Seeks Master Planning Partner, Invites Qualified Firms to Submit Statements of Qualifications

GALVESTON, TX (November 3, 2025) – The Juneteenth’s Home initiative — facilitated by Galveston Historical Foundation’s African American Heritage Committee (AAHC) — announced today the release of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) inviting qualified firms or multidisciplinary teams to submit Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) for master planning services to establish a national Juneteenth center in Galveston, Texas.

The RFQ states that the center will serve as “the definitive destination and focal point for education, reflection, and celebration, honoring Galveston’s legacy as the birthplace of Juneteenth.” This effort builds on the City of Galveston’s June 26, 2025 resolution and Texas House Concurrent Resolution No. 6 recognizing Galveston as the Official Juneteenth Capital of Texas.

The selected master planning partner will help shape a transformative cultural institution that permanently represents the history and meaning of General Orders No. 3, issued on June 19, 1865. The resulting plan will welcome local, state, and national audiences and ensure that Juneteenth’s story is preserved, interpreted, and experienced with authenticity and depth.

Submission Requirements & Deadline

SOQs (maximum 15 pages, 15MB) must be submitted by December 15, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. CDT. Submissions should be emailed as a PDF with the subject line “Juneteenth Home Submission – [Proposer Name]” to submissions@juneteenthshome.com.

Designs, sketches, or conceptual ideas are prohibited and will result in disqualification. Firms must refrain from contacting individual members of the selection committee until after a contract is executed.

About the African American Heritage Committee

Established in 2002, the African American Heritage Committee dedicates itself to identifying, commemorating, documenting, and preserving historic sites important to African Americans and the Galveston community. The committee operates within the Galveston Historical Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1871 and recognized for its leadership in historic preservation, museum development, maritime preservation, and cultural tourism.
